Welcome to our Web Site and the world
of KARAOKE
I'm sure by now if you're a visitor to
this Web Site, unless it was purely by accident, that you know what Karaoke is, but do you know where and how it
originated? If not, just to quickly fill you in here's a brief
rundown.
Do you remember the phrase "Follow The Bouncing Ball"?
For those of you who are old enough to have been around in the late
1950's thru the early 1960's, you may remember a band leader by the name of Mitch Miller. Well, he had a weekly TV show called
"Sing Along With Mitch" where people from the audience would come up on stage and sing, and the TV audience would follow that
bouncing ball on their television screen!
Now everybody seems to think that they have a real handle on where Karaoke
came from and who started it, but there seems to be a little bit of confusion.
The word Karaoke was originally coined about 30 years ago in Kobe,
Japan. It actually was derived from two Japanese words (Karappo) and (Oke) meaning "Empty Orchestra !" I suppose from
that, they laid claim to it's origination. Origination, I think that really lies in ones interpretation of what they read
about it, but they certainly have played a big part in it's development, both in its popularity and tehnology.
Personally, I think that Mitch was just a little ahead of his time
and theirs, like 20 years!
